Ruto's demands to be tried in absentia came as a shocker to Kenyans and the ICC judges. The laws are very clear on how suspects are supposed to be handled and one must be present for the trials to commence.
Ruto's move is seen as a way to boycott the trials, he simply wants Kenyans to believe that the trials are of no consequence and that he is innocent. Ruto fought so hard to get the top seat in governemnt because according to him, he could be immune from these trials, he supported Uhuru so that he could clinch on power, power will shield him from being tried. The ICC which has a clear way to deal with suspects will have none of this, according to the ICC, this is nonessential of the highest order. Ruto could be arrested if he fails to co-operate.
The only way to be clean is to go and clear his name at the Hague and come back clean.
