Government will soon introduce bill in
Parliament on benefits for former PM Raila Odinga and
ex-VP Kalonzo Musyoka.
At State House on Saturday morning, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy Ruto promised the two that they will initiate a bill on a new package.
Sources said for the time being Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has been instructed to ensure that the two have 12 armed guards each.
In January, former President Kibaki rejected a bill that would have seen Raila and Kalonzo enjoy several benefits in retirement.
As it stands, Raila and Kalonzo can only get benefits that are accorded to MPs despite having served as PM and Vice President for the last five years. According to Section 3 of the National Assembly Remuneration Act, the two are to receive a gratuity, at the rate of 20 per cent of their last salary.
